ONLINE REVISION FOR THE GP VTS/ST STAGE 2 EXAMINATION

The GP VTS/ST Stage 2 course comprises of two written papers each. It is aimed at assessing your clinical and communication capabilities and your medical knowledge.

GP ST Paper 1: Clinical Problem Solving

The GP VTS/ST Paper 1 is focused on assessing each doctor's basic clinical knowledge. The GP exam comprises of 100 clinical questions, covering various specialties, in the format of EMQs and MCQs. Candidates have 90 minutes to complete this section.

The GP ST Stage 2 questions are based on medical scenarios surrounding patient care. For example, you may be asked to diagnose the condition, highlight the causes for the symptoms and occurrence, understand the process of reporting to management/superior and identifying methods for investigation. Unlike other examinations, you will not lose a mark if your answer is incorrect.

GP ST Paper 2: Situational Judgement Test (SJT) /Professional Dilemmas

The GP VTS/ST Paper 2 is focused on assessing your interpersonal skills both within and outside the clinical environment. You have 90 minutes to complete this general practice examination, which consists of approximately 50 scenarios. An important note to make is that you should familiarise yourself with the person specification in order to answer these questions.

The 2 primary question formats for the GP ST examination are:

  • A ranking option whereby candidates list five possible GP answers from most suitable to least suitable.
  • You may be given approximately 7 options to one particular general practice dilemma. From the list, candidates are required to select the 3 most appropriate answers irrespective of ranking.
